Best Single Project: Rural Plains Woman’s Club
This club organized a
reception for students, parents and guests at a local high school’s Fine Arts
event.
Best Overall: GFWC Kanawha Woman’s Club
This club gave art and
photography supplies and money for an art course to three children with MD. They
provided supplies for HOBY students to make posters, made holiday decorations
for a nursing home, and had a program on opera.

This club sponsored a
Christmas craft workshop for children at a local community center.

This club promoted the
District Art Show with participation from 6 local schools and donated art
supplies to school art teachers. They participated in a local Christmas parade,
attended ballet and music concerts, wrote poems, made a scrapbook, and donated
to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

Best Single Project: Mathews County Woman’s Club
This club had a summer art
program for children. They obtained two grants to pay for the teachers, supplies
and school rental. They provided refreshments and volunteered as assistants.

This club hosted an Awards
Ceremony for their local Student Art Contest. They have an “Artist of the Month’
display at their club house featuring local artists. They had a program by a
professional photographer and supported the local theater group.

and arranged advertising, supplies, rent, lunches, volunteers, and teachers for
150 children, 7-14 years old, to learn art.

This club removed trash and
debris along the banks of the

and GFWC signs and beautified a school nature area. They recycled, used energy
saving bulbs, collected cell phones and ink cartridges for an adult center, and
shared plants.

This club beautified a
Confederate ladies gravesite and a local fire station. They donated plants to a
school, held an Earth Day Cleanup, used fertilizer and pesticide free products,
and provided water for wildlife.

This club served lunch to
45 sanitation workers during a community cleanup. They made baked beans and
dessert and solicited food, beverages, and plates from merchants.

This club created a
children’s library reading garden and held a 6th grade water
festival. They had a rain barrel workshop, well water education, and
kids/parents activity books, hosted a DEQ speaker, and did oyster gardening.

This club participated in
Feeding Body and Mind, collecting 94 books and contributing food items to the
Central Virginia Food Bank for a total of $987.

While You Wait” signs on crates of books at a Laundromat and Free Clinic. They
donated 2 boxes of books to the Goodwill.

This club supported a local
elementary school, with mostly single parent homes, through a Supply Closet with
$760 worth of school supplies.

This club sponsored
scholarships of $1000 and $500 and volunteered 210 hours for public library book
discussions.

Best Single Project: Tri Club Woman’s Club
This club sponsored a $700
scholarship for a Human Services major at a local community college, allowing
her to make Dean’s List.
Best Overall: Woman’s Club of
This club sponsored three
scholarships totaling over $7000, requiring transcripts, two references, and an
essay of personal accomplishments and goals.
THE

Club of Powhatan County
This club had full
participation in donating time (404 hours), three scholarships, support for
libraries, Books for Babies, and Kits for Kids totaling $9482.52.

for third world countries for which they won an award.

and knitted hats for St. Mary’s babies.

This club collected
clothing, jewelry and house wares monthly and donated them to the Massey Cancer
Center Thrift Shop.

This club walked in the
“Race for the Cure” and the Alzheimer Memory Walk. They bought cancer bracelets
to raise money for research and donated to many health organizations.

This club sponsored a booth
at the county fair where people could have blood pressure and glucose checks.
Best Overall: GFWC Worthington Woman’s Club
This club participated in
the Walk to the Cure and collected Yoplait lids for cancer research. They
collected appliances, medical supplies and money for Cross Over Ministry and
Camp Comfort Zone and donated to many health organizations.

This club held a bridge
luncheon and donated the proceeds to a local Senior Life Style center for
exercise equipment.

This club made posters for
a fund raiser at McDonald’s and donated part of the proceeds to Walk for Life.
They participated in Relay for Life by assisting with registration and walking.

GFWC Regency Woman’s Club –
This club participated in the Komen Race for the
Cure and Passionately Pink for the Cure. They provided holiday goodie bags to a
Pediatric ward. They supported Easter Seals by donating a partial campership,
helping with Eggstravaganza and Bingo for Easter Seals, and holding club silent
auctions to raise money.

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS AWARD
Presented by GFWC Valentine Woman’s Club to GFWC
Worthington Woman’s Club
This club donated $200 to
Change for Cancer. They supported the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation by
collecting Yoplait lids, participating in the Race for the Cure, and sponsoring
2 tables at the Survivor Celebration Luncheon. They donated cartridges to
“Recycle for Breast Cancer” and promoted self exams.

candidates’ night forum at the local library. They prepared questions for

in all areas including historic preservation, veterans’ affairs and safety. They
allowed their club house to be used for court mandated counseling services to
drug offenders.

Best Single Project: GFWC Ashcake Woman’s Club
This club held their annual
Harvest Run with $3000 going to a local shelter for abused women and children.
They also educated the public on Domestic Violence and the shelter.
Best Overall: GFWC Kanawha Woman’s Club
This club provided posters
and brochures for the GFWC VA Convention display, donated money for t-shirts and
participated in the GFWC Walk for Life. They donated items to a local domestic
violence shelter and to a family who had escaped an abusive situation.

This club helped a local
domestic violence shelter by donating clothing, gift cards, food, baby items and
cash. They also donated “Assault Recovery” kits to a crisis center associated
with the shelter.
Best Overall: GFWC Worthington Woman’s Club
This club held a Christmas
party at a local shelter, donating gift cards and dinner, had a work day,
assembling outdoor items, and donated A-V equipment. They collected used cell
phones for victims and participated in the GFWC Walk for Life.

This club adopted a family
that had escaped an abusive situation and donated clothing and gift cards to
them for Christmas.
Best Overall: Tri Club Woman’s Club
This club donated $2000
worth of items from the Wish List of a local shelter. They also donated bus
passes, phone cards, and cash raised by raffling off centerpieces at a meeting.

This club donated
toiletries, clothing, small appliances and gift cards to Madeline’s House .They
supported Fisher House and Women in Military Service. They donated over $2000
and 256 hours to Domestic Violence and almost $1600 and 60 hours to veterans.

Presented by GFWC Bon Air Junior Woman’s Club to
This club sponsored The
Haven, a domestic violence shelter. They collected cell phones and sponsored
several fundraisers. The club gave over $5,000.00 to help with counseling,
including career counseling.
