Special Awards
General Rules for Special District Awards
1. Reports will be judged on work completed from January 1 through December 31 of each year.
2. Entries must be submitted to the appropriate person postmarked on or before January 25.
3. All entries must be submitted on the form entitled Lee District Special Awards (Form B) found in this handbook except for the Eloise Engledove Membership Award, which should be submitted using Form C in this Handbook.
4. Two additional pages typed and double-spaced, one side only, may be attached to the form.
5. Include in the narrative the number of members involved, money spent and results of the project.
6. Scrapbook and clippings will not be accepted.
7. Entries may be submitted electronically in compliance with these rules and deadlines.
8. Awards will be presented at the Lee District Annual Meeting.
9. Clubs presenting awards must report winners to the District First Vice President by February 15 of each year.
THE JEANNETTE T. ELLIS ARTS AWARD
General Clubs Only
THE WOMAN’S CLUB OF ESSEX COUNTY, GFWC presents this award in loving memory of Jeannette T. Ellis, a 65 year member of the club, whose interest in club work never faltered until just a few weeks prior to her death at age 90. An accomplished artist herself, Mrs. Ellis devoted many hours each year to the visual arts. A cash award of $25.00 will be given annually to the general woman’s club judged to have done the most outstanding work in the field of visual arts in the club and community. Entries must be submitted to the current President of THE WOMAN’S CLUB OF ESSEX COUNTY, GFWC.
THE BRANDON EDUCATION AWARD
General Clubs Only
This award is presented by the BRANDON WOMAN'S CLUB. The purpose of this award is to further stimulate educational efforts in Lee District. A cash award of $50.00 will be given to the general woman's club judged to have done the most outstanding work of the year in the field of education. Entries must be submitted to the current President of the BRANDON WOMAN'S CLUB.
OLINE WALLACE AWARD FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
General Clubs Only
The GFWC VALENTINE WOMAN'S CLUB presents this award in loving memory of their member, Oline Wallace, who died of breast cancer. A cash award of $25.00 will be given to the club that sponsors the best project in breast cancer prevention and awareness. Entries must be submitted to the current President of the GFWC VALENTINE WOMAN'S CLUB.
THE JACKIE OVERBOE MEMORIAL AWARD FOR PUBLIC AFFAIRS
General Clubs Only
This award is presented by the WOMAN'S CLUB OF POWHATAN COUNTY, INC. The purpose of this award is to promote and encourage work in the Public Affairs Department. A cash award of $50.00 will be given to the general woman's club judged to have done the most outstanding work in the Public Affairs Department. Entries must be submitted to the current President of the WOMAN'S CLUB OF POWHATAN COUNTY, INC.
ALEX'S FRIENDS – “HELPING CHILDREN IN CRISIS”
General & Junior Clubs
This award is presented by the METROPOLITAN RICHMOND WOMAN'S CLUB in honor of a member who adopted a little boy from Russia. Alex's adoption brought to life for the club members the special needs of children all over the world. The purpose of this award is to promote and encourage programs to aid children and adolescents who are experiencing a crisis. Two cash awards in the amount of $25.00 will be presented. One award will be given for domestic programs and another for international assistance. Entries must be submitted to the current President of the METROPLITAN RICHMOND WOMAN'S CLUB.
THE EDNA HOLSCLAW MEMORIAL HEALTH AWARD
General & Junior Clubs
This award is presented by the GFWC HERMITAGE WOMAN'S CLUB in the field of health. A panel of judges will determine which entry best carries out the most effective program in cultivating better understanding and giving aid in this field. The entry is limited to the BEST SINGLE PROJECT in the field of health. Two $25.00 cash awards will be presented, one to a junior woman’s club and one to a general woman’s club. Entries must be submitted to the current President of the GFWC HERMTAGE WOMAN'S CLUB.
THE ELOISE ENGLEDOVE MEMBERSHIP MEMORIAL AWARD
General & Junior Clubs
The ELOISE ENGLEDOVE MEMBERSHIP MEMORIAL AWARD is a $25.00 cash award presented annually by Lee District. This award is given to honor Mrs. Engledove, Past President, Lee District and GFWC Virginia. The purpose of this award is to promote:
Retention of present members
Revitalization of present members
Recruitment of new members
ENTRIES MUST BE SUBMITTED USING A SPECIAL REPORT FORM (Form D in the back of this Handbook) TO THE CURRENT LEE DISTRICT SECOND VICE PRESIDENT.
THE EDITH EMORY MEMORIAL AWARD FOR EDUCATION
Junior Clubs Only
This award is presented by the ABINGDON WOMAN'S CLUB OF GLOUCESTER in memory of a founding member of the Abingdon Junior Woman's Club and a past Lee District President. A cash award of $50.00 will be given to the junior woman's club judged to have done the most outstanding work of the year in the field of education. Entries must be submitted to the current President of the ABINGDON WOMAN'S CLUB OF GLOUCESTER.
THE PATRICIA CLOEY LEADERSHIP AWARD
Junior Clubs Only
This award is presented by the WESTWOOD JUNIOR WOMAN'S CLUB in honor of a member who has shown outstanding leadership skills and who exemplifies the importance of leadership in all of our lives. A cash award of $25.00 will be awarded to the junior woman's club judged to have done the most outstanding work in the area of leadership and to have devoted the most effort towards the development and encouragement of their members to seek offices within their clubs, the District and State. Entries must be submitted to the current President of the WESTWOOD JUNIOR WOMAN'S CLUB.
THE PAT YORK WOMAN'S ADVOCACY AWARD
Junior Clubs Only
The GFWC BON AIR JUNIOR WOMAN'S CLUB in honor of its founder and first president, Pat York, presents this award. A cash award of $25.00 will be given to the club that sponsors the best project directed at meeting the needs and concerns of women in their community. The winning project will provide one or more of the following results to its recipients: assistance with professional and/or educational goals, increase self-awareness, self-reliance and independence, and/or support and encouragement during challenging times. Entries must be submitted to the current President of the GFWC BON AIR JUNIOR WOMAN'S CLUB.
THE SANDI SHAMBIN MEMORIAL CONSERVATION AWARD
General & Junior Clubs
The GFWC Worthington Woman's Club presents this award in loving memory of their member and past President, Sandra T. Shamblin, who passed away in March, 2009. A cash award of $50 will be given to the General or Junior Club judged to have done the most outstanding work in the field of conservation. Entries must be submitted to the current President of GFWC Worthington Woman's Club.
